Moving on with my Nioxin reviews, I’ve reached System 3. This system is designed for those with chemically treated hair. For those of you who don’t know, Nioxin is very popular with hair stylists. To me, that means they’ve been very successful at marketing their product.

Is there anything wrong with marketing a product? No there isn’t. However, there is so much hype out there, especially with hair loss products that you have to watch out for snake oil salesman.

Would I put Nioxin in that category? That’s tricky. Nioxin doesn’t come right out and say that their product will improve hair loss. They do hint at it strongly whenever they mention cleansing DHT, which causes hair loss.

What’s in Nioxin System 3?

People with thinning hair will definitely benefit from a hair thickener.

Glyco-Color Shield

Nioxin says this product works for your hair in two ways. First, it moisturizes the scalp and hair. Second, it protects colored hair from over processing.

Nioxin Cleanser

This shampoo adds volume to thin hair. It claims to cleanse DHT from the scalp and hair. This really isn’t any different than what any shampoo would do.

Nioxin Scalp Therapy

With essential oils, this conditioner will help your hair retain moisture and stay smooth. Unlike some conditioners, this one adds volume. In other words, it won’t weigh your hair down like so many other conditioners do.

Nioxin Scalp Treatment

This is Nioxin’s signature product, developed at the beginning of the launch. Containing ingredients that cause your scalp to feel cool and tingly, it brings blood to the skin surface.

I’m not listing the ingredients because there are too many. Suffice it to say that they are common to other brands.

Several years ago, Nioxin was very expensive. It still is in many specialty beauty stores. You can find it online for about $60. That’s not a huge price when you compare it to Rogaine. But it is expensive if you are looking for a product that will fight hair loss because I am skeptical that this product will help against hair loss.

How it all Works

The theory goes that Nioxin products help fight hair loss by cleansing and nourishing the scalp, and increasing blood flow to the hair follicles.

I believe Nioxin is a good product for cleaning and maintaining healthy hair. I’m skeptical that it provides any benefit as a hair loss preventive agent.

Would I buy it? I would not because I don’t like their marketing plan.
